How to Place QR and NFC Stands on Tables and Counters
Share
A good stand does three jobs: it is seen, it explains itself in a few words and it is easy to use. Where you place it often matters more than what it is made of.
Where guests look
- On the table: next to the menu holder or the salt and pepper. Guests have time to read while they wait.
- At the till: beside the card machine, where there is a natural pause.
- At reception: on the desk, at hand height.
- At the exit or door: a last reminder as guests leave.
Choose the right format
- Small acrylic stands suit tables.
- Horizontal plexiglass displays suit counters and reception desks.
- Slate or wood plaques fit rustic or premium interiors.
- Wall signs and window stickers reach guests before they sit down.
Write one clear action
A stand works best with a single request. Examples:
- "Free WiFi: scan to connect"
- "Enjoyed your visit? Touch your phone here to review us"
- "Scan for today's menu"
Avoid mixing three actions on one stand. If you want WiFi, menu and reviews, use separate stands or a single link page that offers all three.
Design tips
- Keep strong contrast between code and background.
- Leave a clear margin around a QR code.
- Use matte or anti-glare material under strong lights.
- Print the instruction in the language of most of your guests, and add a second language if you have international visitors.
Test before you commit
Scan or tap every stand with at least two different phones, in the light of your venue, before you put it out. Test again every few weeks.
Keep it clean
Wipe stands during table cleaning. A scratched or stained code scans badly. Replace worn stands early.
